Injury Blues


I can be kind of irritating with how positive I am. But today I kind of feel a little sad. After my second session of needling at the Physical Therapist's I had a hard time feeling positive and like I was moving forward. All I could think of was the fact that when I run, I am still in pain and now, after letting some lady stick a needle in my leg, I am in more pain.


 
Luckily wearing my compression socks relieve some of the pain in my calf. Yay! And make me look super cool.
 
 
 
 
I know that when I can run again (hopefully end of May), I need to remind myself not take every mile for granted.
 
Now, I just need to work on not eating emotionally to cope with the fact that I'm struggling today.

  1. I found you trying to find return to running plans for the IT band! I've had an IT band injury since October (my half marathon!) and I have basically followed the same path as you - Irritation, Physical Therapy, Giving Up, STRENGTH TRAINING, Brief Return to Running, and Reinjury, ugh. I'm not okay with it. I think maybe I need new shoes? but I hate to drop $100 on shoes that might be totally worthless if my leg doesn't get better. -_- Did your PT suggest shoes? Just curious! haha.

    Sooo I don't really have advice on optimism but I have a lot of sympathy for your situation and respect for dry needling, because AUGH I couldn't do it.

  2. Hi Allison,
    sorry to hear about your injury, it's tough to get through. After going to PT and then re-ijuring myself I bought new shoes. Unfortunately, they didn't just fix it. I went to an orthopedic surgeon and he had me go to another PT. With her I am seeing improvement. She has been making me work on my strength training. I will do a tutorial of my strength moves soon. I would suggest shopping around for a PT and finding one you like. Have them assess your gate. She told me that even though I feel most comfortable wearing a stability shoe I am a neutral runner, I knew this but liked the feel of a stability shoe. She said it was changing my gait on my right leg. Who knew? So go get a gait analysis and don't give up on PT. It really helps. I started running this week :)
